Farmer’s Helper · Set up your farm
Set up your farm
Set up Farmer’s Helper to match your farm: name your products and varieties, describe the forms of stock you keep, choose how you measure them, and define your locations and production stages.
These details provide the options in your dropdown menus, so you can select familiar names when recording daily work instead of typing them again.
Work through setup in this order
Start with General settings, Products and Stock types, then continue through Units, Locations, Processes, Stage plans and Other choices. If you need a new unit, location or stage while setting up a stock type, add it on the matching tab and return to choose it.
General settings
Enter your farm name, a person or team name, and the currency you use. The buttons let you add a farm template, connect Google Calendar, and check your setup for errors.
Products
Name the crops, plants, animals or other products you work with. You can distinguish varieties, strains or breeds of the same product—for example, Tomato as the product and Roma as its variety.
Stock types
Stock types describe the forms of the products you keep, such as seeds, plants or harvested produce. One product can have several stock types.
Use this tab to name those forms and choose how each one is counted or measured.
Units
Use Units to define how you measure stock quantities: individual items, weight, volume or area.
You can track items separately or keep track of a group together as a lot. For example, you might count individual plants or measure a harvested lot by its total weight.
Locations
Name the physical places where stock can be kept or found. A location describes where stock is, while a stage describes a step in its growing or handling process.
Processes
Name the growing or handling processes your stock follows. A process is the overall sequence of work; its individual steps are stages, which you define on Stage plans.
Stage plans
Describe the stages within each growing or handling process, their usual order and the timing, location and work you want to plan for.
Other choices
Prepare names used when recording people and suppliers, and keep any additional note categories or observation measures your farm wants to define.
